John T. Saunders, Jr.
Chief Executive Officer

John, Jr. earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin in 1975, where he minored in geology and played on the golf team.  John immediately entered into the oil & gas exploration industry and has over 35 years of operational experience in not only Texas, but South America, Central America and Europe as well.

John T. Saunders III
President

John III earned a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural and applied economics from Texas Tech University in 2006, and a master’s degree in Business Administration from University of the Incarnate Word in 2009.  Upon graduation from Texas Tech he worked as an independent petroleum landman in South Texas while he worked on his master’s.  In 2009, John became head of the land department in San Antonio for Linear Energy Management, where he researched, negotiated, and managed all land acquisitions. In February of 2012, John and his father teamed up to form Saunders Oil & Gas LLC.

Matthew Gainey
Chief Financial Officer

Matt earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Southwestern University in Georgetown in 2005, and a Master’s in Business Administration in Energy and Finance from the University of Oklahoma in 2009.  After graduating from Southwestern, Matt was a Senior Accountant for Blackbrush Oil & Gas and helped manage accounting functions.   After completing his Masters in Oklahoma, Matt worked as Controller for Kerns Petroleum and oversaw all both domestic and international accounting and treasury functions.   Matt joined Saunders Oil & Gas in August of 2014. 

Exploration

Ryan DeLeon
Exploration Geologist

Ryan was hired as a geologist for SOG in May 2013 following 6 years of wide-ranging exploration experience, working primarily with Kerns Petroleum and Texas Royalty Corp in Italy, Brazil, and the United States. His mission is the identification, qualification, and development of conventional and unconventional oil and gas reservoirs through the integration of geoscience, technology, and economics. Ryan has 8 years of industry experience in multiple domestic and international basins, using the latest seismic technology and expertise in stratigraphy to discover oil and gas fields that were previously overlooked. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the University of Texas at Austin.

William Cage
Exploration Geologist

William earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology at Texas Christian University and minored in Business in 2008 while playing on TCU's football team. He received his Masters degree in Geology from TCU in 2009. William previously worked at Silver Creek Oil and Gas as an exploration geologist and geologic operations supervisor where he gained experience finding and developing unconventional resource plays in Oklahoma, north Texas and west Texas before joining Saunders Oil and Gas LLC in 2014.
